I am going on my FIRST DXpedition! My brother Tony, KD8RTT, wanted to try a DXpedition. We are both big travelers and wanted to try a weekend on the air from somewhere exotic. We also don’t want to get in over our head, so we planned a trip to a place we have been to before, can easily get to, and has infrastructure. Tortola fit the bill perfectly (in fact I’ll be on the island a week before our DXpedition on a cruise with my family.
Our plan is to focus on SSB and try CW, with some digital when we need a break. We are also focusing on 6 meters, 12 meters, 17 meters, and 30 meters as those bands are most in demand according to ClubLog. We will be on 6 meters as much as possible to capitalize on the summer openings. We follow propagation for the best openings. On August 11, we will also be participating in the HamSCI Meteor Scatter QSO Party on 6 and 10 meters.
We will be operating as VP2V/KD8RTT and VP2V/KK4LWR. We will be doing a joint QSL card for this DXpedition. We plan to upload to LotW as soon as we can after the trip.
